Fitting & Care Instructions

Fitting

Ensuring proper fit for your earplugs is crucial before heading into the water. Incorrect fitting can lead to dislodgement and potential loss. This occurrence is most common during the initial use. Since everyone's ears vary, different techniques may be more effective for different individuals. Explore the provided images to discover the best fit for your ears. Additionally, feel free to share a photo of your earplugs in your ears for assistance in determining correct fit.

Cleaning And Care

With proper care, your earplugs can offer years of protection for your ears. While we don't specify a guaranteed lifespan for our Molded earplugs, many users have reported using them for extended periods without issue. For instance, the black and white plug shown endured over 6 months of exposure to the local beach break, surviving sea flea bites and remaining effective.

To extend the longevity of your earplugs, we suggest the following tips:

1. Regularly rinse off your AquaShields to clean off any salt water.
2. Store them in the provided pouch when not in use.
3. Rinse and dry the case regularly.
4. Avoid using petroleum-based products such as Vaseline, as they may degrade the earplugs.

By following these guidelines, you can maintain your earplugs in top condition for prolonged use.

Filters

Our acoustic filters are intentionally designed to be replaceable for your convenience. If you find that one is missing, we highly recommend replacing it promptly before using your plugs in the water. Replacement filters are available for order on our shop page.

Occasionally, while in the water, you may perceive that the filter is blocked. This is often the result of water accumulating on the surface of the membrane. Simply tapping or gently swiping your finger over the filter should clear the obstruction.

It's important to note that while our filters are effective in reducing water ingress during activities like swimming and diving, they are not designed to stop pressurized water, such as in the shower. Water may potentially bypass the filter membrane under such circumstances.

Retention Cord

Our retention cord is intentionally designed to be detachable for your convenience, allowing you to remove it as needed, such as when wearing a hood during winter. When removing the cord, hold it close to the plug and gently ease it out to the side, avoiding straight pulling. During reattachment, ensure the cord is snugly fitted back into the hole and press around it to secure it in place. However, please exercise caution and avoid relying solely on the cord attachment when leaving your earplugs dangling from your neck. If your plugs are out of your ears for an extended period, like when walking back to your car, we recommend tucking them into your wetsuit for added security.

Case

To keep your earplugs primed for water sports and beach fun, maintaining a clean, dry case is key. This protective environment shields your earplugs from moisture buildup and potential bacterial growth. Wipe down the case regularly to clear away any sand, dirt, or residue, allowing it to air dry thoroughly afterward.

When not in use, store the case in a cool, dry spot, shielded from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Prevent moisture infiltration by keeping the case away from damp towels or water bottles. By adhering to these practices, your earplugs will remain in optimal condition, standing ready for your next aquatic adventure.
