Where Does Swimmer's Ear Come From?

Swimmer’s ear comes from exposure to contaminated water that introduces bacteria or fungi into the ear canal. The ear canal becomes a breeding ground for these microorganisms when it remains damp after swimming or bathing. Other sources of infection include inserting objects like cotton swabs into the ear, which can damage the skin and introduce bacteria. People who swim frequently in untreated or polluted water are at higher risk for developing swimmer’s ear.
